The school was started in the year 1959 with a handful of
children. The primary section was added in 1984. The new science block was
constructed in 1993. Computer classes were introduced in 1988. The LKG was
started from July 1998. Thus taking the total number of student to 2400. At the
+2 level the school has Math’s, Biology, Arts and Commerce facilities.
St. Gabriel’s Higher Secondary is situated in Ranjhi, which is a
suburban town in Jabalpur District. Jabalpur is a bustling city in Madhya
Pradesh, a state of Republic of India. Jabalpur has a great historical
importance because of its association with Satvahanas, Bodhis, and Kalchuris.
In historical records this city was called Jabalipattan, according to
historians the city abounds in huge granite boulders, which in Arabic are
called Jabal, which forms the root for the name of the city that is Jabal –
pur.
Ranjhi, which was to play a leading role in the education of the
youth, was just a suburb of Jabalpur. In 1955 Rev. Father Van Helvert O’Praem
bought the land situated near West Land Estate, from Seth Narsingh Das. In 1958
Rev. Brother Eleazer together with Brother Rambert, the Visitor General visited
the place. The council meeting held at San Thome on March 27 th 1958 accepted
this foundation as from June 1959.
The Provincial Council meeting held at Yercadu on 5 th June
1959, appointed Bro. Eugene Mary as the first Director of St. Gabriel’ School,
Jabalpur. The Foundation stone was laid for not only a school but also for the
better future of many thousands of students who were going get educated here.
